We are thrilled to be presenting three powerhouse musicals for you this summer and again we have chosen shows from what our patrons have requested; shows that are family, friendly and fun.
We begin with “SUDS: The Rocking 60’s Musical”, which was actually created and conceived by San Diego’s own Melinda Gilb and Steve Gunderson, who are legends in the entertainment industry. This show, which has played Off-Broadway and throughout North America, is a fun-filled, entertaining and intimate show. We can promise that you will be singing hits of the 60’s in your seat and all the way home. It truly is spectacular. I knew this was a show we had to bring back to its San Diego roots.
Next to come is “The Pajama Game”, which was last seen in Starlight back in 1979! This classic needed to be revisited and with the economic pressures we all feel, even a 7½-cent raise the show focuses on is something that we can ironically relate to. The catchy songs and the romantic storyline make for a wonderful show to see “under the stars”. Harry Connick, Jr. just starred recently in the Broadway revival and now its San Diego’s turn to put it back on stage.
Finally, we close with “Hello, Dolly”. This was an overwhelming winner when patrons were asked which show should be brought to the 2010 season. It’s not hard to tell why this Broadway classic is still a huge hit today. Once we get to hear a full orchestra swell in songs like, “Before the Parade Passes By” and “Hello, Dolly”, we will all get those chills that only musical theatre can bring. Even better than that, our favorite matchmaker will bring us laughs and a lot of joy to end the summer with.
We hope to see you and your loved ones with us for 2010. Our great subscription packages and the Kids Free program make this a great option for all patrons. Now, get ready for actors freezing while planes soar overhead, beautiful music from a glorious orchestra and tons of local San Diego talent to showcase how great Starlight Musical Theatre truly is. We’re now 64 years old – what a season to ring it in with!
